up the bloody republic...
now THAT is what i call patriotism...
up the bloody republic!

NO...i'm not the biggest fan of the united states of america and it's pop culture-based society. but i never said i was totally smitten by ireland either. maybe i've been yankeefied or something, but...

...what the hell is UP with this attitude towards irish-americans? i mean, sure the shamrock-donning 12th generations with no bloody clue as to what it means to be irish get a bit irritating after a while, but they're not the majority. a good deal of them are actually more up on culture, politics, and history than we are. what the hell are we laughing at, folks? we should be ahsamed, what with us being forced to learn it in school and still knowing less than people who took the time to learn it on their own....

...and maybe i AM a bit hung up on this, having more irish american friends than you can shake a stick at as well as a slew of narrowback cousins...but another point...did it ever occur to some of these puritanical hibernohillbillies that've never left their home counties that all those ugly irish americans were once just IRISH??? what a noble lot we are, sending our own off to a foreign country and then abandoning them as outsiders just a few short years later...

...in the same vein...or maybe not quite, for a group of people with such "disdain" for the u.s.a., the irish (dubs in particular...call me culchie, peeps, but you know as well as i do) are the most bloody AMERICANISED lot of people....and on PURPOSE, no less! everything america does, ireland's got to do. everything america has, ireland's got to have. dublin is now new york's mini-me. but wait....you said it yourselves, boys....the american system sucks. so why (ohwhyohwhyohwhy??) are you following the yanks into the valley of death?

...chances are if you're reading this you weren't around back in 1916. that's okay, neither was i. but i know enough to say this much...you can trust me oh great boys of the provisionals, when i say there isn't a james connolly or padraic pearse among you. if there was, ulster would be totally green by now and the only thing you lot would be concerned with right now would be which side of the belfast gpo you want to take a piss on.

...the irish, both home and abroad, are constantly whingeing about stereotypes....the drunk one in particular. i don't even think i need to tell you about that. but yet, they keep on perpetuating the same stereotype. really, lads, if you don't want to be known as drunks, don't feckin' BE drunks! and don't look at me like that. i know i drink. BUT I DON'T COMPLAIN, EITHER.

...i would really prefer if you didn't talk about the easter rising if you think it happened in 1922.

...the potato famine is OVER. it has been for YEARS. but just for your information, it wasn't a bloody famine...

yeah...that's all i got to say on that...for now. sure there'll be more later. there's ALWAYS more...slán agus beannacht, amadán...
